About Us

Ecoforest is a Panama based company that manages a 7,275 hectare concession, granted by the Republic of Panama in 1998, in the watershed area of the Panama canal, adjacent to the artificial Gatún lake. In accordance with the concession contract, the company reforested the 3,035 hectares of the land that had suffered the practice of slash and burn and were invaded by the exotic and highly invasive canal grass (Sacharum spontaneum) with teak (Tectona grandis), while another 4,240 hectares of natural forest were put under protection of the company.

“Our aim is creating a sustainable bond between commercial reforestation & nature conservation”.

Since 2001, under direction of the company Panama Reforestation Services, that manages a total of 21,000 hectares of teak plantations and natural forests in Panama, Ecoforest has been establishing the second rotation of the reforestation project focused on 2 aspects:

1) The ecological and socio-economic sustainable management of FSC® certified plantations (FSC®-C155159) on the one hand.

2) The conservation and restoration of the existing natural forests on the other, while enhancing the overall biodiversity.

Forest Stewardship Council® is an international, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting responsible management of the world’s forests. Since its foundation in 1994, FSC® has grown to become the world’s most respected and widespread forest certification system.

NATURE CONSERVATION.

The importance of forests cannot be underestimated. We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Besides providing habitats for animals and livelihoods for humans, forests also offer watershed protection, prevent soil erosion and help fight climate change.
